Hezbollah using Germany as hub for terrorism
With anti-Semitic attacks are on the rise in Germany, perhaps it’s not a surprise that the terror group Hezbollah has more than 1,000 members and supporters living there and is using the European country as a hub for its activities on the continent.
The German newspaper, Tagesspiegel, reported Friday that the Iranian-sponsored organization is active in Europe
recruiting new members,
trafficking drugs and
raising money to procure more arms for its deadly activities.
Hezbollah has been Israel’s nemesis on its northern border for decades now, launching attacks from within Lebanon. During the recent civil war in Syria, the group has attempted to entrench itself along more of Israel’s border setting up military posts in Syria as well.
Now, its stronghold in Europe is also concerning to Israel. According to the article, Hezbollah members “use Germany as a place for drug trafficking, trade in stolen cars and money laundering. The implications of the group for the drug business are well documented.”
The report said that Hezbollah’s “main routes now move from South America to Africa into the EU. Cocaine reaches Germany mainly via the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg.”
“Hezbollah is also allowed to spread propaganda here (in Berlin) in the Reuterstrasse, recruit new members, collect donations – and then forward them to Beirut,” Tagesspiegel reported.
According to a German intelligence agency report in 2019, several mosques and Islamic cultural centers across the country are known to have ties with the group.
“In Germany, there are currently about 30 known cultural and mosque associations in which a clientele regularly meets that is close to Hezbollah or its ideology,” wrote the intelligence agency.
Germany is now considering banning the group in its entirety, not just the military arm of the organization.
