Why Iran Could Attack Israel Tonight? Please Pray!It is the 9th of Av—am Important Day in History
Tonight at sundown, a time of prayer and fasting begins for our nation—it is known as Tisha b’Av or the 9th of Av. On this day on the Jewish calendar, multiple catastrophes have occurred throughout history—and currently, Iran is threatening to enact a new one by launching a multi-day assault on Israel.
So what all has happened on the 9th of Av throughout history?
Rabbis believe that 10 of the spies brought back the bad report from the Promised Land that resulted in the children of Israel rebelling and wandering in the desert for 40 years.
The FIRST and the SECOND Temple were BOTH destroyed on the 9th of Av.
The Jews were expelled from England in 1290 on Tisha b’Av.
They were also expelled from Spain in 1492 on you guessed it, the 9th of Av.
In the Nazi era, deportations to death camps from the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland began in 1942 on the 9th of Av.
In 1914, Russia then declared war on the Jews living in Russia and started pogroms to exterminate them—ultimately resulting in the deaths of at least 300,000 Jewish people in the first genocide of the 20th century.
Israel is on high alert tonight. It is very hard for me, not being with Elana and Danielle there. Elana tells me that Israelis are terrified. Thousands of Jews have gathered at the Western Wall to fast and pray for the nation and remember the past. Israelis know that we can defend ourselves from Iran, but there is a weariness. No one expected that we would still be at war nearly a year after October 7.
As Iran threatens to “wipe Israel off the face of the map,” we are thankful to have world leaders from Germany, the UK, and France (in addition to the US) standing with us. See their proclamation below.
Most of all, though, we need God’s protection. It is a comfort to know that He is faithful to His word even when we are unfaithful—and He is the Protector of Israel. Please continue to pray for us and that Israelis would also find hope and peace in Yeshua, our Messiah.
