War and a Trip to the Pharmacy 💊

Normally, I would be in Tel Aviv right now, but our congregation service was moved to Zoom in light of the war with Iran. We are one week into the war and the missiles have slowed considerably. This morning, I was in the Superpharm (our version of CVS), waiting to get some medicine when all of our phones began to alert us to incoming missiles. When that happens, it means we have roughly 10 minutes to find shelter—fortunately, Iran is much further away than Gaza or Lebanon, where we would only have 15 seconds to one minute to find cover. After about 10 minutes, if a missile is going to land close to you, there will be a siren in your city.

So, I had a decision to make, because the Superpharm—as the worker came out and told everyone—does not have a protected area. I was hoping that the 20 customers in front of me would decide to go home—but they didn’t. So, I went outside, thinking I would come back later. Getting medicine wasn’t worth risking my life. But then I noticed a bomb shelter. We have them every few hundred meters. So, I hung out there until eight minutes had passed, and I assumed it was safe to go back into the drugstore. We never heard an alarm, and my phone, which would tell me if there were any sirens in Israel, was silent.

Inside Info?

In other words—I’m beginning to wonder if Iran is running out of missiles or missile launchers. They’ve only had two significant hits—one in Tel Aviv and the other in the desert city of Beersheba. I was told by somebody who is supposedly in the know that Israel and the US have taken out 80% of their ability to launch missiles. I was also told by the same person that Israel and the US are going to work with the Iranian Kurds to arm them so they can be the boots on the ground. He said that they expect the war to last about six weeks.

There are several articles that do confirm the idea of working with the Iranian Kurds: “‘We have been preparing for this for the past 47 years, since the age of the Islamic Republic,’ said Hana Yazdanpana, of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), which claims to have the biggest armed force.”

Staycation

We are staying close to home. It’s like a staycation. Elana and I have enjoyed being with each other, cooking meals, and taking walks…except for the other day when we had to run to a bomb shelter in the middle of our walk. We do appreciate your prayers. They mean so much at this time.

Pray also for the spiritual health of Israel—that we would see a national awakening.

Shabbat Shalom!
