Rail line to connect airport to Western Wall
Americans will feel at home when a new high-speed train linking Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv directly to the Western Wall brings them all the way to a station named after U.S. President Donald Trump.
Israel is moving forward with plans to lay an additional 1.8 miles of rail in an underground tunnel that will take passengers directly to the Western Wall. Currently, a high-speed rail line from Tel Aviv to the capital takes passengers near the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem. The continuation to the Western Wall will pick up from here.
The Old City station will reportedly be named after the American president who has made more pro-Israel moves than any president in American history. In April 2019, Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who was at the time the transportation minister, confirmed that the station will be named after Trump.
“Here, in the Old City of Jerusalem, we will build the Western Wall & Temple Mount train station. It will be named after @realDonaldTrump, who made history and recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The official announcement will take place on Israel’s Independence Day,” Katz wrote on Twitter.
The airport-Jerusalem link is supposed to be a just 32-minute ride. By car it can take between one and 90 minutes depending on traffic.
Jordon is none too happy about this and is call it “flagrant violation of international law, assume its responsibilities to resist the illegitimate and illegal Israeli steps,” this, according to the BCC.
