An amazing thing happened to me last week at our congregation, Tiferet Yeshua in Tel Aviv. A man came up to me at the end of the meeting, told me his name, and asked me if I remembered him. I didn’t initially.
Then he began to tell me his story, and I stopped him and asked, “Weren’t you in jail about 10 years ago?” He said yes.
Avi (not his real name) was in jail in Beersheba, in the southern part of Israel. I don’t remember what his crime was, but I believe he stole something. I think it was his sister who got in touch with the congregation when I was a senior pastor and asked if somebody would visit him.
Moti Cohen, who is now the senior pastor, went down to visit him in prison. He led him in a prayer of salvation. Moti stayed in touch with Avi over the years and discipled him.
I don’t know where Avi has been all of these years, but he is now serving at Tiferet Yeshua helping Moti.
Reaching Israelis with the good news of Yeshua usually happens one person at a time, one encounter at a time, like with Avi.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
Because the Lord has anointed me
To proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim freedom for the captives
And release from darkness for the prisoners.
(Isaiah 61:1)
Yeshua saw these words of Isaiah as His mission statement (Luke 4)—one that He continues through us, His followers.
Our congregation, Tiferet Yeshua, does this every day, reaching Israelis with the good news of Yeshua, one person at a time, one conversation or visit or cup of coffee at a time.
During this holiday feast of Sukkot, will you consider making a special donation or becoming a monthly supporter?
You are a vital part of continuing the ministry of Yeshua—being His hands and feet—in Israel.
Until He returns (one day soon)!
