Romania announces embassy move to Jerusalem
Romania will be next in line to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, the country’s Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă announced on Sunday.
Speaking at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington D.C., Dăncilă called U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem “admirable and courageous.”
“That is why I am pleased to announce today to the AIPAC audience that after the conclusion of the analysis by all the constitutional actors involved in the decision-making process in my country and, in full consensus, I as the prime minister of Romania and the government that I lead, to move the Romanian Embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel,” she announced.
Bold Declarations
When Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 2017 and promised to move the U.S. embassy there, Romania indicated it would also consider relocation and approved a resolution last year to start the process of moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Obama’s Leading from Behind
It is nice to see the US lead from the front, reversing the eight years of the disastrous Obama era policy of leading from behind. It seemed that Obama felt that America was arrogant and needed to come down a few notches. However, he was missing that fact that the U.S. has a prophetic role to be a leader and example to the rest of the world—particularly when it comes to Israel.
Honduras
Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez also announced at AIPAC that his country is ready to “immediately” extend its embassy to Jerusalem, though not relocate quite yet.
“Honduras will immediately open our official diplomatic mission – and this will extend our embassy to the capital of Israel, Jerusalem,” he said.
The United States led the way last year by moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, promptly followed by Guatemala, which opened the doors to its embassy in the Israeli capital that same week. Brazil, Australia and the Czech Republic have also announced their interest in moving their national embassies.
