NY Times runs outrageous anti-Semitic cartoon — apologizes — and then does it again!
One of the world’s largest newspapers, The New York Times, ran an outrageously anti-Semitic cartoon portraying a skull-cap wearing U.S. President Donald Trump being led on a leash by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a guide dog with a Star of David.

Israeli Minister Gilad Erdan said publishing an anti-Semitic cartoon such as this is “shocking and reminiscent of the Nazi propaganda during the Holocaust.”
“Anyone who really fights racism and hatred of Jews should demand that the newspaper apologize and dismiss anyone responsible for publishing the Nazi-style cartoon,” he said.
After widespread international outrage the paper acknowledged that the caricature, published in its international edition, “included anti-Semitic tropes.”
“The image was offensive, and it was an error of judgment to publish it,” the paper admitted. “It was provided by The New York Times News Service and Syndicate, which has since deleted it.”
Eileen Murphy, a spokeswoman for the NY Times, said the paper was “deeply sorry.”
“Such imagery is always dangerous, and at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise worldwide, it’s all the more unacceptable,” she said in a statement. “We are committed to making sure nothing like this happens again.”
“Apology not accepted,” the American Jewish Committee responded. “What does this say about your processes or your decision makers? How are you fixing it?”
U.S. Envoy to the Middle East, who has been working on formulating a peace plan for the region, said on Twitter, “The cartoon wasn’t just dangerous — it was despicable.”
Portuguese cartoonist António Moreira Antunes was the artist and the cartoon was picked up as a syndicate.
Israeli cartoonist Shay Charka responded with a cartoon of his own replacing Trump’s face with a copy of the New York Times, Netanyahu’s face with a book, The Protocols – a 100-year-old anti-Semitic text – and the label “BDS” on the dog tag.

In a stunning development, the very same New York Times then published another anti-Semitic cartoon just a few days later.
“The second cartoon, by António Moreira Antunes, who is Portuguese and works under the mononym António for the Lisbon weekly Expresso, is a caricature of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Moses, holding a selfie stick in one hand and a stone tablet with the Star of David in the other hand, descending from Mount Sinai. It was printed on Saturday beside an unrelated David Brooks column.” (source)

“Untimely bad move by The New York Times showing an ominous-looking cartoon featuring the Star of David and Israel’s prime minister again, right after apologizing for the first cartoon and promising to prevent similar cases of anti-Semitism in the future,” StandWithUs CEO Roz Rothstein said. “All of us must hold them accountable to their promises. In just a few months it has become acceptable to spread Jew-hatred. Even since the Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar began to tweet anti-Semitic tropes against Israel and the Jewish people, the left has become more and more tolerant—even portraying her as the victim.
