Israel announced this week a successful test of the new “C-Dome”—a naval version of the Iron Dome missile defense system. The news comes as talks to reign in Iran’s race to a nuclear weapon are set to end next week—deal or no deal. And as Russia pushes forward with its invasion of Ukraine.
Israel has repeatedly said it anticipates having to go it alone against a nuclear Iran. Russia’s incursion into Ukraine—despite US sanctions and pressure from Europe—may serve to embolden Iran (and China) to act.
Israel continues to prepare. On Monday, the C-Dome, which is installed on Israel’s latest-generation corvette warships (fast and highly lethal missile boats), conducted tests, intercepting incoming rockets, cruise missiles and drones, according to the Israel Defense Ministry.
The corvettes defend Israel’s coastline and natural gas assets in the Mediterranean Sea—offering a “key layer of protection” against Iran and its regional proxies—Hamas to the south and Hezbollah to the north. Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the C-Dome is a welcome addition to Israel’s growing arsenal of defense systems.
“The systems that we are developing as part of Israel’s multi-tier missile defense array enable us to operate against Iranian proxies in the region and defend against their weapon systems, which are constantly being upgraded. We continue to be two steps ahead of them and we will continue developing and upgrading our capabilities in order to maintain security superiority in the region.”
Along with the Iron Dome and C-Dome, Israel has other systems that are capable of repelling long-range and short-range rockets.
Last week, Hezbollah launched a pair of drones into Israel from the north. Russia has marched into Ukraine seemingly with impunity. And next week, Iran will either walk away from the negotiating table for good and surge ahead toward a nuclear weapon (which would no doubt be immediately aimed at Israel) or (perhaps worse) enter into a weak deal to supposedly halt their nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions and the release of billions of dollars which would then go to arm Hezbollah, Hamas and other proxies in the Middle East.
Yeshua warned that there would be wars and rumors of wars. But that the end was not yet.
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matt 24:6-13)
Israel needs your prayers. Let us all stand firm in our love for Yeshua and our hope that one day—maybe even soon—the Prince of Peace is returning!
