Left-wing American Jewish lobby wants Biden to reverse major Trump policies on Israel

An American Jewish lobby has a list of “recommendations” for the incoming Biden administration that call for reversing many of President Donald Trump’s pro-Israel policies over the past few years.

Trump has been called the most pro-Israel American president ever, an assessment evidenced by his unprecedented moves to bolster the Jewish state from moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing the city as Israel’s capital to brokering four historic peace deals with Muslim nations.

J Street is calling on President-elect Joe Biden to reverse many of Trump’s moves including trashing his peace plan “deal of the century” that he proposed for Israelis and Palestinians.

The Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, has reported that the organization “prepared a set of policy recommendations for the…Biden administration that are based on adopting a fresh approach toward the conflict, going beyond what previous administrations have attempted. The group argues in the policy agenda document, obtained by Haaretz, that this approach begins with reversing much of the Trump administration’s moves over the past four years.”

J Street Director of Communications Logan Bayroff said the list also includes restoring a ban on funding Israel institutions in the West Bank and reopening a Palestinian diplomatic mission in Washington D.C.

“As we look forward to the Biden administration taking office… J Street has engaged with a wide range of stakeholders and policy professionals to exchange views on policy recommendations and proposals,” he said.

Despite the success of the Abraham Accords — a historic peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco — J Street is also calling on Biden to only negotiate such peace treaties by going through the Palestinians first, something Trump avoided, parting ways with the traditional approach to Middle East diplomacy.

The problem with this is that the Palestinians do not want to negotiate with Israel, whereas many Arab and north African nations do. Should we let the Palestinians highjack peace for the entire region?

Trump also pulled Israel out of the Iran nuclear deal and instead placed heavy sanctions on Iran.

J Street claims it doesn’t support the Boycott Divestment Sanctions movement, but that is false as it has had BDS leaders speak at their conferences.
