Israeli Students find Swastikas on Dorm at U.S. Univ.

Two Israeli sisters who are studying at the University of Indianapolis were scared to find swastikas drawn inside their dorm room just after arriving on campus for the fall semester.

Michal and Shira Sasson, who are twins, are now juniors at the college and have been attending there and playing on the basketball team for years now.

“I was disgusted, hurt and really taken aback,” Michal Sasson told the Indianapolis Star. “I was quite surprised. I’ve never received this kind of hate.”

“It was like a kick in my stomach, I felt like there was a knot in my stomach. It was just very harsh, like right in your face. I just said we’re miles and miles away from home, and this is our home away from home. And at that moment, I felt even further away from my house.” —Israeli Student Michal Sass

Michal said that she and her sister have received love and support from friends, family and school employees. The university booked the girls a hotel room for a few nights and provided them a new room at the school.

The school responded in a statement.

“We are saddened and angered by this act of hate and bigotry. Although we do not yet know the source of this anti-Semitic act, we should all be reminded that the University of Indianapolis is a welcoming and inclusive environment, denounces actions such as these, and does not tolerate anti-Semitic actions or any behavior that is aligned with ideologies that promote hate.”

The Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council said it appreciates the college’s quick action and condemnation anti-Semitic acts.

“In these difficult times we ask that everyone continue to report hateful symbols and speech meant to intimidate or spread fear to the proper authorities,” David Sklar, the council’s assistant director, said in a statement.

White supremacy and anti-Semitism is on the rise in the U.S. Believers should do all they can to speak out against it.
