This Shabbat feels…different.
Normally, there’s a rhythm—a settling of the soul as the week comes to a close. But tonight feels more like an extension of the week than a true Sabbath rest. We’ve just come through a holiday, the war continues to disrupt daily life, and our congregation isn’t even able to meet. It reminds me of those years when the Fourth of July fell midweek in the U.S.—everything just felt slightly out of sync.
In the middle of all this, something unexpected happened today.
I had been scheduled to travel to the U.S. in a few days, but my flight was suddenly canceled because of the war with Iran. Then, just an hour ago, Elana let me know that El Al had opened additional seats on outgoing flights. They're the only airline flying, and every seat had been booked. We moved quickly—and by God’s grace, we were able to secure two tickets.
But they came at a significant cost.
And that brings me to why I’m writing.
As many of you know, over the past year and a half our income has been affected by the shifting global economy. The Lord has been faithful—we’re not in lack—but we also don’t have margin for unexpected expenses like this.
At the same time, this trip is deeply important to me. My father just turned 87, and my mother is 84. Living over 6,000 miles away means every opportunity to be with them is precious. In recent years—between COVID, canceled flights, rising costs, and constant uncertainty—travel has become increasingly difficult. That makes moments like this all the more significant.
So I want to humbly ask:
If the Lord puts it on your heart, would you consider helping us cover the cost of these tickets?
I don’t make this kind of request lightly. In fact, I have not had to ask for help with airfare since 2008, when I traveled to Uganda for Israel’s 60th anniversary. But this felt like one of those moments where it’s appropriate to invite others into helping us maintain and strengthen our family relationships, even as we minister here in Israel.
If you’re able to give a little extra this month, it would mean a great deal to us—not just practically with ministry expenses, but personally in sending us to be with family. You can click below or use the address at the bottom of the email.
Thank you for standing with us, praying for us, and partnering in this journey. Your support truly makes a difference.
